DIY Photo Coasters
These custom coasters make a great gift or you can make them for yourself with some of your favorite pictures. I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought they would look great using some old black and white family photos. The best part is this is a totally inexpensive craft that makes a great gift.
It’s so simple that you can definitely have the kids help you with it.
Supplies You Need:
Ceramic Tiles (I grabbed a few at Home Depot for 11¢ each)
Modge Podge I used matt finish (more on that later)
Foam Brushes I used the widest brush I had
Felt Pads I used 1-inch pads
Getting Started
I liked the look of black and white photos on the white tiles. I took 4″ x 6″ photos and trimmed them down to fit on the 4″ x 4″ tiles. I left a little white border showing all the way around. I applied Modge Podge to the entire surface of the tile and applied the photo. I let that dry overnight and applied two coats of Modge Podge over the top of the photo. Allow this to dry for several hours between coats. I was busy with other things, so I just let each coat dry a full day.
I originally used glossy Modge Podge but I did not like the look.

I tried sanding it lightly with a 220 grit sandpaper. I sanded it so much that the Modge Podge pulled off in one giant piece. Luckily, it did not damage the picture so I was able to just go over the photo with matt Modge Podge.

I sealed all the coasters with Plaid acrylic sealer to add further protection.
I gave them to my mom for a Mother’s Day gift. It’s a great way to display family photos.
