How to Decorate for St. Patrick’s Day on a Budget

How Cheaply Can it Be Done? Does $25.00 sound like a reasonable budget?  It is with some coupons, sales, and a trip to Dollar Tree.  Full disclosure, I have a lot of stuff in my craft stash that I didn’t need to buy for these projects such as pipe cleaners, paint, glitter, leftover deco mesh ribbon,…

How to Decorate a Kid’s Room that Can be Easily Changed as They Grow

Decorating a room for a child is so much fun! However, redoing that room two years later, not so much.  Over the years I have learned how to decorate a kid’s room that can be easily changed as they grow. This bathroom went from a grown-up teen’s bathroom with black and white damask accents to a Frozen fantasy room for around $100.00.  The best part, when she out-grows it in two years it is all easily changeable.  The wall color can stay and the vinyl can easily peel off the wall. Cricut is the Secret Before Cricut, I used to create specialized rooms with paint and stencils.  Let me tell…

Light switch covers are typically boring, but they don’t have to be.  See how you can decorate light switch covers to compliment any decor.  This is especially true in kids’ rooms.  It’s super easy to take a plain white, $1.00 cover and transform it into an expensive-looking statement piece. A Lot of Bang for Your Buck I went for a big statement with lots of glitter but you can go more subtle. Decoupage and scrapbook paper is a more understated look.  Wrapping paper is also great for decoupage.  If you want to go as I bold as I did, you will need a few things. -light switch covers – you…

How to Make a Rustic Wood Photo Holder

Browsing through Pinterest, I became inspired by this rustic receipt holder.  Cruising the aisles of Hobby Lobby I was able to find the necessary supplies.  I set about figuring out how to make my own rustic wood photo holder. The candlestick was too tall in proportion to the wood plaque.  So my husband kindly cut the cup portion from the top (I am deathly afraid of saws.)   Supplies Wood candlestick-available at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.  If you do not have access to a saw Amazon has a pack of 3 short candlesticks for a great price. DIY Valentine’s Day Decorations on a Budget

Valentine’s Day is my second favorite holiday to decorate for (of course Christmas is my favorite.) I love a good DIY Valentine’s Day decoration. Take it to the Next Level I picked up two items in the Dollar Spot, I knew I could make a little more special with my Cricut and some vinyl. This heart plaque originally had a very…

Take a Clearance Item from Trash-to-Treasure

I love a good sale! Between working full-time and chauffering two kids around, I just don’t get much shopping time.  The other day I found some time and rushed into Hobby Lobby.  It was definitely my lucky day, as they had just marked all fall decor down 80%, and it wasn’t even Thanksgiving yet! The fall aisle was like an L.A. freeway at rush hour.  Shoppers’ carts were bumper to bumper, as we rummaged through pumpkins and foliage.   I always host Thanksgiving at my house, so I was on the look-out for some new fall decor to go with my Give Thanks reverse canvas I had just made. How to Save $4000.00 by Refinishing Oak Banister with Gel Stain

I swore to myself that I wasn’t going to write this post because I have seen a million of them on Pinterest.  I actually got this idea from Pinterest.  But this project has consumed all of my free time, and I haven’t been able to do anything else except for the decorations for my classroom.  So here comes yet another post on the miracles of General Finishes Gel Stain. Refinishing the Bannister Costs How Much? A little more than a year ago we replaced the carpet in most of our downstairs and in our loft with a dark laminate.  While this was a huge improvement over the old carpet it…
